Without question, I would recommend "Caps for Sale" by Esphyr Slobodkina. Now more than fifty years old, this wonderful tale continues to entertain generation after generation of kids.

One classic for Baby May is Pat the Bunny. Goodnight Moon is another must!
How about "The Phantom Tollbooth" ....for a little later on in his young life!
